V4@Theatre Critics Residency 2022

V4@Theatre Critics Residency is a creative platform for theatre critics up to the age of 35 from Slovakia and abroad. The project was launched in 2015 upon the initiative of the Association Divadelná Nitra in cooperation with partners from the participating countries. With the support from the International Visegrad Fund and the Slovak Arts Council, the project keeps on growing in terms of the number of participants, countries represented and lecturers.

Information on how to apply for the 2022 residency is at the bottom of this article. / Registration is closed.

V4@Theatre Critics Residency aims to advance critical reflection of theatre, monitor new trends in stage art, and awareness of analytical methods in examining the often specific and experimental works of art. As part of the residency, a group of selected theatre critics participate in the International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra. They view the Festival performances and analyse them in sessions with the residency lecturers.

From the outset, the Festival residency participants have been working under the guidance of distinguished international theatre scholars and critics – Patrice Pavis (FR, 2015 – 2018), Thomas Irmer (DE, 2017 – 2019), Stefan Tigges (DE, 2019 – 2021) and Darko Lukić (HR, DE, 2020 – 2021) who facilitated the intercultural dialogue on contemporary art.

The V4@Theatre Critics Residency does not merely have a learning role. It is also a platform for international cultural exchange and that of information about what the latest in performing arts in the home countries of the project lecturers and participants. In this context, we created a mini-project V4@Networking & Reminiscences. It links the current and previous project participants and other theatre professionals who participated in the Festival.
