Scenes from family life

directed by: Pavel Gatilov

The current play Scenes from Family Life brings a tragicomic story about relationships in one family, a story about love and infidelity, human fragility, war and peace in each of us. Irina’s husband Nikolai volunteered for the war to earn money. After some time, he returns home, but Irina has a lover, neighbour and teacher of her son, Sergey. This love triangle brings great dialogue, tension and humour. Characters controlled by their desires are close and familiar to us, and we know their foreshadows from real life. They all struggle between their dreams and reality. The author of the play, Anna Jablonská, views the situation kindly and with humour full of understanding for human failures. Anna Jablonská died tragically in the terrorist attack at the Domodedovo airport in Moscow in 2011. She was one of the most expressive voices of her generation, despite her youth. Her play Pagans was staged in Slovakia to great acclaim, and her tragicomedy Scenes from Family Life is brought by The Andrej Bagar Theatre in its Slovak première. The director of the production, Pavel Gatilov, is a fresh talent of Ukrainian directing. Ukrainian costume designer Olena Rykusova enriched the production team.
