The exhibition Family Matters maps the work of male and female artists who are related in different ways. It reflects their relationships and family liaisons within the context of art. It is a sociological and psychological probe into relationships in artistic (multigenerational) families between a parent (father) – adult child (son) and in married couples.

The selection of works focuses on artists who worked primarily in the 20th and 21st centuries. Raimund von Wichera (1862 – 1925) and Maximilián Schurmann (1890 – 1960) represent the earliest father and son pair, dating back to the 19th century. The exhibition features authors whose works are represented in the collection fund of the Nitra Gallery. It is thus a probe into the theme, as well as into the gallery’s collections. It is to confront a wider generational spectrum of different artistic poetics and strategies, model pairs and their possible artistic and human relationships. The added value of the exhibition is a video documentary featuring intimate statements of artists, a kind of mini oral history, bringing an insight into their perspective on their relationships, mutual influence and interaction. The story captures how they perceived each other’s work, and whether they reflected on it. Alternatively, whether there was a need to differentiate one from the other or did they coexist in greater harmony, creating a supportive artistic environment.

Oľga Paštéková’s solo exhibition focuses on the relationships between humans and animals, natural and urban settings. She expands her paintings into objects and installations, often using the methods of painting by burning.

Oľga Paštéková (*1984) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava under the tutelage by Ivan Csudai, Daniel Fischer and Vladimír Popovič (2003 – 2009).
