The project This is Art, Too is one of the unique projects in Slovakia. Since 2014, it has been making visible forgotten works of visual art and architecture in public space of Nitra – sculptures, buildings, architectural complexes, churches, cemeteries. It aims is to raise public awareness of cultural values, support cultural tourism and travel, and contribute to the rediscovery of the identity of the city and its inhabitants. Its convenors – the founding Association Divadelná Nitra and the civic association Nitra Cultural Heritage – use it to highlight the value, significance, and uniqueness of the work itself, as well as the authors and their contributions. In 2020, learning video walks were added to the visual installations located around the city.
During the 2025 Divadelná Nitra, an event will be held in cooperation with the Nitra Cultural Heritage. Part of the Festival main programme will take place for the first time in the Palace Cinema, one of the buildings that has been bearing, for several years, the This is Art, Too logo. The cinema building was designed in 1925 by architect Friedrich Weinwurm in the spirit of new practicality and purism. Since 1930, Nitra-based businessman Július Stark has been the cinema director. It was due to his contribution that, after minor structural and technological modifications, the venue has become
the first cinema in Slovakia to screen a sound film, the American musical The Singing Fool (1928). The building, which had been vacant and decrepit for years, underwent major reconstruction in 2019 as part of the Nitra Creative Centre project. It saw restoration of the original Weinwurm-style appearance of the façade of the building, along with its former and new role as a major cultural venue in the city.
