Debate: The Right to Create
Today, independent or even public-office-run ensembles, venues and festivals are an integral part of the Slovak theatre context. They are not mere supplement to the cultural menu served by cities and municipalities, but also part of civil society. In what conditions do they create? Are they truly independent? How has and will affect them the current situation in the Slovak Arts Council? Are they free to create in Slovakia today? Why and how should the state, regional or municipal administration support them? What is behind their boom in recent years?
These and other issues will be discussed with the host and curator of Divadelná Nitra Miro Zwiefelhofer:
Katarína Kövesdi Cvečková, co-founder of the specialised theatre web portal mloki.sk, administrator of the Bratislava City Foundation and former member of the Slovak Arts Council
Alžbeta Vrzgula, director and playwright, co-founder of the Uhol_92 theatre and laureate of the DOSKY award.
Michal DItte, dramaturge and playwright, co-founder of the Pôtoň Theatre, DOSKY award laureate and manager of the Academy of Arts Theatre in Banská Bystrica.
