The Biennial presents theatre photography as a unique art form to raise public awareness of the visual genre and, by presenting photographic works and their authors, to create an platform for professional confrontation. The student section of the Biennial creates helps to shape theatre documentation for the future. The exhibition of photographs accompanying the Biennial creates a clear visual testimony of theatre production in Slovakia. In 2024, Robert Tappert became the third-time laureate of the Grand Prix of the Biennial of Theatre Photography with his series of staged photographs Dog on the Road (Pavel Vilikovský, Slovak National Theatre, Bratislava, 2024). Second place went to Joseph Marčinský for a photograph from the Maestro Juraj Steiner portrait series. Third prize went to Igor Stančík for the series of staged photographs History of a Certain Violence (based on the novel by Édouard Louis Histoire de la violence, LUDUS Theatre, Bratislava, 2023). Student award went to Karolína Korimová for a photograph from the series of staged photographs Embodying the Monster (author’s monodrama inspired by the novel Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley, LAB Theatre, Bratislava, 2024). Honourable mentions in the main category were received by Braňo Konečný, Henrich Mišovič and Juraj Žilinčár.

The 6th annual Biennial of Theater Photography 2024 competition was announced and organized by the Theater Institute, the competition partner is the Department of Photography and New Media of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.
