On Wednesday evening, 27 September, the 32nd edition of the International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra, which was subtitled odozvy/responses, ended with the performance Danse Macabre (Dance of Death) by Ukrainian collective Dakh Daughters. The suggestive musical-visual composition turned into an anti-war manifesto in Nitra and almost 400 spectators responded with a moving standing ovation.
During the six days from 22 to 27 September 2023, the festival offered twelve productions in the main programme and more than thirty events in the accompanying, educational and working programme, which were attended by approximately 4,300 spectators, adults and children. Theatre artists from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Ukraine came to Nitra and their works brought responses to ecological themes, war and human fates in it, echoes of loneliness, exclusion, but also understanding and trust. The festival staff consisted of 30 members and 40 volunteers, and 80 donors, sponsors, media partners and co-organisers contributed to the preparation and support of the festival.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the preparation and implementation of the festival and to the festival audience for their attendance, support and great atmosphere. See you at the 33. ITF Divadelná Nitra!
